Lighting the Advent Candle
Ministre - Today is the third Sunday of Advent - the Sunday of Joy.
Last Sunday we lit the second of our Advent candles, the candle of
peace. Today we light it again, along with the first candle, the
candle of hope as we remember that Christ will come again to fulfil
all of God's promises to us.
(Light the First, Second, Candle)
- Our joy is in God and in his son Jesus Christ.
Like peace, joy is a gift from God.
It overtakes us and fills us when we remember what God
has done and what he has promised to do.
- We light this candle today, the candle of Joy to remind us that Christ
came, and is coming again, so that all people might have a rich and
abundant life. We thank God for the hope he gives us, for the peace
he bestows, and for the joy he pours into our hearts.
(Light the Third Candle)
Song – A candle is burning, a candle of JOY
A candle to welcome brave Mary’s new boy,
Our hearts fill with wonder, and eyes light and glow
As joy brightens winter like sunshine on snow.
Tune – Away in a manger
